The day will start by taking a tour around the local markets. We will select some of the ingredients and visit a number of shops where key ingredients for Indian cooking are available. After we have visited Manali markets together we will then prepare and cook the dishes in Narvada's kitchen. After the food has been cooked we all share what we have made. It doesn't matter what skills or experience you have in the kitchen as all stages will be demonstrated and guidance given as much or as little as necessary. So that you can learn the dishes you would like to, please take a look at the options below and we suggest that you select one from each category. This will build up a complete range of dishes and variety of Indian food for you to cook and eat. If you are not familiar with these dishes just let us know and we can put together a suitable menu for you.
1. Dhal
i) Rajma (kidney beans)
ii) Dhal (lentils)
iii) Channa masala (chickpea)
iv) Dhal makhani (lentil curry - made with butter)
2. Side dish
i) Aloo gobi (potato and cauliflower)
ii) Mixed subji (mixed vegetables)
iii) Bringal (aubergine)
3. Paneer / Main dishes
i) Mutter paneer (peas and cottage cheese)
ii) Palak paneer (spinach and cottage cheese)
iii) Malai kofta (paneer and potato balls in a rich gravy)
iv) Egg curry
4. Breads
i) Parantha
ii) Stuffed parantha - egg, paneer, aloo (potato), gobi (cauliflower)
iii) Roti / chappati
5. Sweets
i) Garjur halwa (carrot halwa)
ii) Mung dhal halwa
iii) Kheer (rice pudding with dried fruits)
iv) Gugeya (coconut, fennel and raisin sweet pastry)
6. Accompaniments
i) Curd raita
ii) Coriander & mint chutney
iii) Tomato chutney

You will be talked through how to make an aromatic masala chai with an explanation given to why some of the spices are used - as well as being delicious they are also good for your health!
The day is designed to be tailored to your requirements so if there are any dishes you would like to learn, such as the local dish sidu, Narvada is also able to show you how to make these, but there are so many we can't list them all here!
Group sizes are kept to a maximum of 5 people. If you prefer a private class then please also discuss this on booking.
The whole package costs 1000INR which includes all food, drinks and also the transport costs from Manali to Vashisht.
